Manufacturer of bubble envelopes reveals new insulation product

Sealed Air, a leading manufacturer of bubble envelopes, has launched a new space-age insulation material under the brand name Reflectix.

The new material sandwiches a layer of AirCap bubble wrap and Cell-Aire polyethylene foam between two external layers of high-purity aluminium foil. Originally developed by NASA for use in spacesuits, the material has remarkable heat insulating properties, and it was soon taken up for use in the construction industry.

Air is actually a relatively poor conductor of heat, which means that the layer of bubble wrap and foam helps to prevent heat transference, while the aluminium layers reflect heat away from the material with a 95-97% efficiency rate.

European product manager at Sealed Air Hans Kriens explained: “The Reflectix insulation product is ideal for new construction or retrofit installation in commercial or domestic structures.

“It provides benefits such as lower heating, cooling, insulation and recycling costs, which further highlight the versatility of the product. It can also be used for interior and exterior walls, attics and roofs, basements and under floor heating. The possibilities are almost endless.”

Available to both professional contractors and amateur DIY enthusiasts, Reflectix is a cost-effective way to save money on heating and air conditioning costs.
