Dutch firm introduces new cellophane wrapper for lollipops

Dutch food packaging specialists CFS Aquarius have developed a new cellophane wrapper for lollipops which will substantially increase their shelf life and help to reduce waste in the long term.

One of the main challenges of designing the new wrapper proved to be the issue of balancing performance against cost of manufacture. As lollipops are such low-value items, manufacturers cannot afford to spend a great deal of money on packaging. Traditional wrappers which would protect the lolly for longer have previously been too expensive to produce in large numbers.

CFS Aquarius have managed to conquer this problem with their new wrapper. It features a double-twist design, which prevents moisture from permeating the packaging and ensures that the lollipop stays fresh for as long as possible. It also has a tear slit for easy opening.

The wrapper – which goes by the name OverlapSeal – can be used with CFS Aquarium’s TwistWrapper machine, which is capable of wrapping lollipops from 18 to 35mm in diameter, and can accommodate film reels of up to 440mm in length. Using the new wrapper, lollipops can be packaged at the rate of 600 per minute.

Segment sales manager Kees Le Loux commented: “In countries and regions where the atmospheric humidity is high, the lollipop’s shelf life is significantly extended. The new tear slit feature makes the OverlapSeal double-twist even easier to open than a regular double-twist.”
