Manufacturer of cotton gloves develops eco-friendly packaging

Ansell, best known for their range of cotton gloves used in the packaging industry, have developed a new type of packaging for their latex medical gloves that are designed to be kinder to the environment.

The new boxes have been redesigned in order to pack the gloves more efficiently into the available space, which is crucial as the boxes have to fit into the existing wall brackets that most hospitals use to store examination gloves.

This seemingly simple change in design actually has quite a dramatic effect on the carbon footprint of examination gloves. The new packs contain between 50% and 100% more gloves, depending on the type of glove they contain. Thus packaging waste from glove boxes can be as much as halved.

Plus, the greater capacity boxes also mean that the gloves take up less storage space and do not have to be re-ordered as often, which helps to save on fuel and transportation costs.

Ansell’s exam product manager Heather Campbell explained: “It’s wonderful when we can find solutions that meet environmental demands as much as they meet our customer’s demands. It’s part of Ansell’s commitment to provide green solutions that never compromise the safety, quality or infection prevention properties of our gloves.”
