Brown wrapping paper manufacturer creates new packaging solution
Pregis Hexacomb, a leading manufacturer of brown wrapping paper, has announced the impending launch of a new protective packaging material which is paper-based rather than plastic-based.
The new material – known as HexFlex – is made by sandwiching a soft, honeycomb core between a sheet of conventional brown wrapping paper and a sheet of cellulose-based material that provides added surface protection for delicate items.
As HexFlex is made from paper-based materials rather than plastics, it is far easier to recycle using existing methods. Also, its unique construction means that it can curve around the corners of packed items, giving them a higher degree of protection during transit.
Jeff Kellar, president of Hexacomb, explained: “We’ve created a strong, flexible structure that is in a protective packaging category all by itself. In addition to its performance properties, the paper-based construction offers companies a way to achieve performance requirements without sacrificing their environmental objectives.”
Furthermore, HexFlex is considerably lighter than most other packaging solutions, which in turn means that less energy is required in transportation.
HexFlex can be used in a wide range of applications, from electronics to industrial components. It can also be die-cut for use in specific roles where shaping is needed.
